Ahlan wa sahlan

A walnut key holder carrying the welcome

The words said to a guest at the door, on the piece the guest passes on the way in. One size, 40 × 22 cm.

Four decisions before it ships

  1. What it is

A key holder in solid walnut with the calligraphy in stainless steel, 10 cm deep.

  2. Size

40 × 22 cm, and that is the whole size decision.

  3. Finish

Three finishes. The walnut is the same in each; what changes is the color of the metal on it.

  4. Where it goes

By the door, at about hand height — the drawing below shows it beside a doorway at the same scale.

Size by the door

How big is it on the wall?

40 × 22 cm. It is drawn below beside a doorway, at the same scale.

Doorway · 80 cm (31 in) wide, 200 cm (79 in) high · piece drawn hanging at 140 cm One size · 40 × 22 cm 15.7 × 8.7 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
One size15.7 × 8.7″40 × 22 cmThe only size it is made in

Measured against the door it hangs beside. The doorway in the drawing is a standard 80 cm wide and 200 cm high, and the piece hangs beside it at 140 cm — which is roughly where a hand reaches without thinking about it.

Craft

How it is made

The walnut takes the weight and the steel takes the calligraphy. Neither material does the other one’s job well at this size, which is the whole reason the piece is two of them rather than one.

  • Solid walnut, not a veneer over board — the grain runs through the piece
  • The metal part is stainless steel, finished in the color chosen
  • 10 cm deep, so it stands off the wall rather than sitting flat against it

On the two materials. Walnut and stainless steel are doing different jobs here: the wood gives the piece its warmth and the weight that keeps it steady, the steel carries the calligraphy at a thickness wood could not hold. It is why the two are paired rather than one being made to do both.

Finishes

The finishes

Three finishes of the metal part.

ahlan wa sahlan in gold

Gold

Warm and bright, and the one that reads best against off-white and cream walls.

ahlan wa sahlan in silver

Silver

Cool and quiet, and the easiest to place in a room that already has chrome or glass in it.

ahlan wa sahlan in black

Black

The sharpest contrast of the set against a pale wall, and the one that reads most clearly from across a room.

Putting it up

Hanging something that holds weight

It carries a load, which nothing else on a wall in this house does. That makes the fixing the part worth getting right.

  1. Pick the height first, center it after

This is used at arm’s height rather than looked at from the sofa, so the height is the decision. Around 140 cm from the floor falls where most hands already go; the drawing above shows it at exactly that.

  2. Match the fixing to the wall, not to the piece

It holds a bunch of keys as well as itself. A wall plug in drywall and a masonry plug in brick is the difference between a fixing that lasts and one that works loose over a winter.

  3. Hang it, then load it

Put the keys on once it is up and look at it again. Anything that shifts under the first load will shift again, and it is a five-minute job now against a repair later.

Where it lives

Which wall

By the front door

The wall you pass on the way in and on the way out. A key holder only works where the hand already goes — anywhere else and the keys end up on the counter anyway.

Over the hallway console

Above the table where the post lands, so the keys and the letters end up in the same place rather than two.

In the cloakroom, by the coats

Out of sight of the living room and next to the coat the keys go into the pocket of.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth, with the grain. Nothing abrasive on either material.

No water and no chemicals

Water, alcohol and household cleaners all mark walnut. If a mark will not lift dry, a barely damp cloth, dried at once.

Away from damp and direct sun

Wood moves with humidity and darkens in strong light, so give it an interior wall out of the midday sun.

40 × 22 cm. Pick the height before the width, and put the fixing into something that will hold a full set of keys.

Frequently Asked Questions

The phrase is deeply rooted in hospitality and kindness. 'Ahlan' comes from 'Ahl' (family), and 'Sahlan' comes from 'Sahl' (plain/easy path). Together, they translate to 'You have come to your family and have found ease.' It embodies the Islamic tradition of welcoming guests with an open heart and providing them with a sanctuary of comfort.

The most respectful and traditional placement is the entryway or foyer. According to Islamic etiquette, the first thing a guest should feel is welcomed and at ease. Placing this art near your front door serves as an immediate visual 'Salam' and sets a spiritual tone of hospitality for everyone who enters your home.

No, our wooden pieces are manufactured in Turkey using high-quality MDF that is specifically treated for durability. This material is more resistant to the expansion and contraction caused by humidity changes compared to solid wood, ensuring your welcome sign remains a beautiful, flat, and intact focal point for years.

It depends on your interior style. Wood arts offer a warm, organic feel that complements traditional or rustic decor. Metal arts provide a sleek, modern look with a premium electro-coated finish. Both are crafted with the same attention to scriptural accuracy and Turkish craftsmanship.

While the physical art is a beautiful reminder, Islamic teachings emphasize the intention. Hanging this verse shows your commitment to 'Ikram al-Dayf' (honoring the guest), which is a virtue highly praised by the Prophet (PBUH). The art serves as a constant 'Dhikr' for you and a comfort for your visitors.

Our metal art is designed to be lightweight despite its durable industrial finish. Most pieces can be easily hung using a single nail or the specialized mounting hardware provided. This ensures that you can display the sacred script securely without the need for heavy-duty tools or damaging your walls.

We recommend hanging our art in sheltered areas or indoors. While our metal pieces are electro-coated for rust resistance, direct exposure to rain or harsh sunlight over many years can eventually affect the finish. Placing it just inside the entryway or in a covered porch area ensures the art stays in pristine condition.

Our art is designed for easy relocation. Simply lift it from its mounting point and move it to a new location. We suggest handling the piece with care and cleanliness, keeping in mind that it represents a significant value in Islamic culture. Always ensure the script remains elevated and never touches the floor during the move.

With over 6,000 positive reviews, IWA is the authority in premium Islamic art. Every piece is designed and produced in Turkey, combining modern precision with a deep respect for Arabic calligraphy. We offer 24/7 support and 3-5 day shipping to ensure your experience is as seamless as the art itself.

While the choice of color is largely aesthetic, Gold and Silver are traditionally associated with the honor and radiance of the Message. Black provides a modern, bold contrast that makes the calligraphy stand out. Choose the finish that best inspires a sense of 'Khushu' (tranquility and focus) within your specific home environment.

Each hook is engineered to securely support multiple heavy sets of keys without bending or losing its shape.

The Islamic keyholders feature pre-drilled holes and include all necessary mounting hardware for a stable, professional installation on your wall.

We use high-precision laser cutting and high-contrast printing to ensure every prayer and calligraphic detail is sharp and easy to read.

You can choose between modern, easy-to-clean metal and acrylic finishes or warm, traditional solid wood designs to match your home decor.
