The First Kalima

A low band for a narrow wall

Three decisions before it ships

  1. Size

Made in one size, 50 × 23 cm, drawn to scale against a sofa below.

  2. Finish

Three finishes — black paint, or gold or silver acrylic.

  3. Hanging

    Ready to hang on delivery.

What is written on it

The First Kalima

There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Short enough to run as one line, which is what makes this piece low and wide.

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ

“There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

Size & scale

One size, drawn against the room

There is one size to buy, and at 50 cm wide it suits a wall a larger piece would crowd. It is drawn below at true scale above a three-seat sofa.

Three-seat sofa · 200 cm (79 in) wide, 82 cm (32 in) high One size · 50 × 23 cm 19.7 × 9.1 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
One size19.7 × 9.1″50 × 23 cmAbove a hallway shelf, or the narrow wall beside a door

Match it to the furniture, not the wall. A low horizontal piece looks right when it spans roughly two thirds of whatever sits beneath it. Run painter's tape to the full width first and look at it from where you normally sit.

Craft

Wood behind, acrylic in front

The script is cut into a 6 mm MDF board and faced with a 1.2 mm shiny acrylic layer, so the letterforms stand forward of the board rather than printed onto it.

  • 6 mm board with a 1.2 mm acrylic face
  • Cut and layered so the calligraphy sits forward of the panel behind it
  • Wood and acrylic combined, each carrying its own depth and grain
  • Edges finished clean, with no visible fixings on the face

On wood and acrylic. Layering the two materials is what gives the piece its depth: the acrylic carries the line of the calligraphy and the wood behind it gives the panel warmth and weight.

Hanging it

One level line does the whole job

A low band shows a tilt more than a deep piece does, so mark the line rather than judging it by eye.

  1. Find the center of the wall

Mark the center point rather than measuring in from a corner — a layered panel wants to sit centered on the wall it occupies.

  2. Tape the outline first

Painter's tape to the full outline lets you judge the proportion from where you normally sit, before any fixing goes in.

  3. Hang and check the level

Hang it, then step back across the room. A panel with a straight top edge shows a tilt more readily than a cut silhouette does.

Where it goes

Where it goes

The prayer corner

The wall you face when you lay out the mat, where a single piece is read rather than looked at.

Above a console or a sideboard

It sits over a run of furniture as one object, without needing a second piece to balance it.

A hallway or a study wall

One piece suits the wall you pass or sit facing, where a set would be too much.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth. Wood and acrylic both mark with abrasives, so nothing scouring.

No solvents

Alcohol and glass cleaner will haze acrylic. If a mark will not lift dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.

Away from damp and direct sun

Wood moves with humidity and acrylic can warm in direct sunlight, so give it an interior wall out of the midday light.

Choose your size and finish

One size, three finishes. Tape the width on the wall before you mark anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

The First Kalima is the 'Key to Jannah.' Scholars from the Islamic Bulletin note that its presence in a home creates an environment of 'Tawhid' (Oneness). It acts as a spiritual anchor, reminding the residents to align every action with the pleasure of Allah and the example of the Prophet (PBUH).

Yes, it is highly encouraged as a form of 'Dhikr' (remembrance). The key is 'Adab' (etiquette): it must be placed in a clean, elevated position, typically above eye level. It should never be placed near floors, in bathrooms, or in areas where it might be treated with disrespect.

No. Our metal pieces undergo a premium electro-coating process in Turkey. This industrial-grade finish creates a chemical bond that is rust-resistant and tarnish-proof. Whether you choose Gold, Silver, or Black, the finish is designed to maintain its brilliant, mirror-like luster for decades.

The most traditional and respectful locations are the living room foyer or a dedicated prayer space (Musallah). Hanging it near the entrance of the home is a powerful way to set the spiritual tone for everyone who enters, reminding them of the foundation of their faith.

Accuracy is treated as a sacred 'Amanah' (trust). Every piece is designed in Turkey and cross-referenced with the Uthmani. Master calligraphers meticulously verify every 'Nuqta' (dot) and 'Haraka' (vowel mark) to ensure the divine words are perfectly preserved.

Our wood art offers a warm, 3D organic feel that brings a traditional aesthetic. Our metal art features a sleek, high-end finish with industrial durability. Both materials are handcrafted in our Turkish workshop to ensure museum-quality standards.

Yes, it is common to hang it in a bedroom as a source of peace and a reminder to make the Kalima one's final thought before sleep. Ensure it is mounted securely and high on the wall to maintain the respect due to the declaration of faith.

Treat the art with the same respect as a Mushaf. We recommend using a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently remove dust. Avoid water or chemical cleaners, as they are unnecessary for our premium finishes and could potentially dull the luster over time.

Our metal art is engineered to be sturdy yet lightweight. Most pieces are designed to be hung with a single nail. They often feature built-in spacers that allow the art to sit 1.5 cm away from the wall, creating a beautiful 3D shadow effect that adds depth to the script.

Turkey is the historical heart of Islamic calligraphy. By manufacturing in our Turkish workshop, we employ craftsmen who have inherited centuries of artistic tradition. This ensures that the proportions of every letter are aesthetically and scripturally perfect, a quality mass-produced items cannot match.

Black painted, Gold Acrylic and Silver Acrylic

The wall art pieces are crafted from high-quality materials, including laser-cut MDF wood and acrylic. To maintain their appearance, avoid using water, alcohol, or chemicals. Clean the surfaces with a dry, soft cloth to preserve the finish. These materials ensure durability and a premium look suitable for long-term display.

Yes, all wall art pieces come fully assembled and ready to hang. They include pre-installed hanging hardware or nails or double-sided tapes for easy installation.

We do not recommend any chemical products. You can remove dust with a slightly damp cloth.
