How I pray

The steps of salah, on a piece they can hold

The order of salah on a two-sided wooden piece — girls’ steps on one face, boys’ on the other — at 20 × 29 cm.

Two decisions before it ships

  1. Size

One size, 20 × 29 cm, so the decision is where it sits.

  2. Hanging

Small and light: hang it, lean it on a shelf, or let it sit beside the prayer mat.

Craft

Two sides, two designs

This is a teaching piece rather than a wall piece: printed on both faces of a wooden board so it works for a girl or a boy, and light enough to sit next to the mat while they learn the order.

  • Printed in color on both faces of one wooden piece
  • One side drawn for girls, the other for boys
  • Light enough to sit beside the mat and be picked up mid-prayer

Why two sides. One piece serves both children in a house rather than two: turn it over and the drawings change. It also means it keeps working as the family grows.

Hanging it

Keep it beside the mat

It is most useful within arm’s reach of where the child prays — on the floor by the mat, on a low shelf, or hung at their eye level rather than yours.

  1. Decide standing or hanging

On a shelf it can be picked up and turned over, which is half the point of two sides.

  2. Set it at their height

If it goes on a wall, measure to the child’s eye level rather than to yours.

  3. Let them handle it

It is wood, not paper — it survives being carried, dropped and stood back up.

  • Packed with corner protection for transit

Where it goes

Where it belongs

Beside the prayer mat

Where salah actually happens, which is the only place a step-by-step piece earns its keep.

A child’s bedroom

Read at leisure rather than mid-prayer, which is how the order gets learned.

The prayer corner

Alongside the mat and the mihrab, so the whole corner reads as theirs too.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth. A painted board marks with abrasives, so nothing scouring.

No solvents

Alcohol and glass cleaner will lift paint. If a mark will not come off dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.

Away from damp and direct sun

Wood moves with humidity, so give it an interior wall out of the midday light and away from a bathroom.
