The Ta’awwudh with the Basmala

Both opening phrases, on one line

A’udhu billah with the Basmala cut from steel and powder painted, standing 1.5 cm clear of the wall. Two lengths, 69 or 99 cm.

Three decisions before it ships

  1. Size

Two lengths — 69 or 99 cm — drawn to scale against a sofa below.

  2. Finish

Four finishes — black, matte gold, matte silver or matte copper.

  3. Hanging

It arrives ready to hang, so the work is one level line at the right height.

What is written on it

What is said before reading

The two phrases said before reciting the Qur’an — seeking refuge, then beginning in the name of Allah. Cut as one line so they read in order.

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ , بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

A’uzu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim, Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.

“I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

The Ta’awwudh and the Basmala

Size & scale

A long line is judged against the furniture

Both lengths are around four times wider than they are tall, so these sit above a console or a doorway rather than filling a wall. Drawn below at true scale over a three-seat sofa.

Three-seat sofa · 200 cm (79 in) wide, 82 cm (32 in) high XL · 99 × 26 cm 39 × 10.2 in L · 69 × 18 cm 27.2 × 7.1 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
L27.2 × 7.1″69 × 18 cmAbove a doorway, a shelf, or a narrow console
XL39 × 10.2″99 × 26 cmAbove a two- or three-seat sofa — the length most chosen

Match it to the furniture, not the wall. A low horizontal piece looks right when it spans roughly two thirds of whatever sits beneath it. Run painter's tape to the full width first and look at it from where you normally sit.

Craft

The depth is structural, not printed

Cut from steel and powder painted afterwards, so the finish is even on every inside edge. Mounted 1.5 cm proud, the line carries its own shadow.

  • Both phrases cut as one continuous line
  • Letterforms cut clean through, so the wall color becomes part of the artwork
  • Electrostatic powder coating, baked on for a hard, even surface
  • No odour and no harmful substances

A coating that is baked, not sprayed. Powder is applied electrostatically and then cured, which gives a harder and more even surface than a sprayed paint and holds its color without yellowing.

Finishes

The finishes

Four matte finishes. Black reads hardest against a pale wall; gold, silver and copper each pick up the light differently.

Euzu Basmala metal wall art in black

Black

The sharpest contrast of the set against a pale wall, and the one that reads most clearly from across a room.

Euzu Basmala metal wall art in matte gold

Matte Gold

Powder coated. Warmth without shine, which suits a room lit mostly by lamps rather than daylight.

Euzu Basmala metal wall art in matte silver

Matte Silver

Powder coated. Cool and quiet, and the easiest to place in a room that already has chrome or glass in it.

Euzu Basmala metal wall art in matte copper

Matte Copper

Powder coated. The warmest of the matte finishes, and the one that reads best against green, clay or deep neutral walls.

Hanging it

One level line does the whole job

A long horizontal shows every degree of tilt, so mark the line rather than judging it by eye.

  1. Measure to the fixing first

Set it face up and measure from the left edge to each fixing point, so the wall marks come from the piece rather than from guesswork.

  2. Pencil one level line

A low, wide piece shows every degree of tilt, so mark a light horizontal line and put every fixing on it.

  3. Tape the width, then hang

Painter's tape to the full width lets you check the position from across the room before drilling.

  • Packed with corner protection for transit

Where it goes

The walls it was sized for

The prayer corner

The wall you face when you lay out the mat, at standing eye level rather than above it.

A hallway or landing

It reads on the way past, on a wall people walk by rather than sit in front of.

Above a console

A main living-room wall, centered on the furniture beneath rather than on the wall as a whole.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth along the length of the script. A baked powder coat is harder than sprayed paint and takes dusting well.

No solvents

Alcohol, glass cleaner and polish will dull a matte surface. If a mark will not lift dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.

Damp resistant

The powder coat handles humidity better than a painted finish. Give it an indoor wall away from a bathroom or a kitchen extractor.

Choose your size and finish

Two sizes, and the finish is the rest of the decision. Tape the width on the wall first — it is the only measurement that matters.
