The Basmala with the four Quls

Five texts, on one square panel

The Basmala at the center with Al-Kafirun, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas around it, cut from metal as a single 86 cm square.

Two decisions before it ships

  1. Size

One size, 86 × 86 cm, drawn to scale against a sofa below.

  2. Hanging

One piece rather than five, so there are no gaps to get right.

What is written on it

The Basmala, with the four Quls

The four short surahs recited together, with the Basmala at the center — laid out as one composition rather than as five separate pieces.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

The Basmala, and the four Qul surahs

Size & scale

A square is judged on the wall around it

At 86 cm square this takes a wall of its own and wants clear space either side rather than a shelf beneath it. Drawn below at true scale above a three-seat sofa.

Three-seat sofa · 200 cm (79 in) wide, 82 cm (32 in) high One size · 86 × 86 cm 33.9 × 33.9 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
One size33.9 × 33.9″86 × 86 cmA main living-room wall, a stairwell, or a prayer-room wall

Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

Craft

Five texts, one cut

Cutting all five texts from a single sheet is what fixes their spacing: the composition cannot drift on the wall, and the wall color fills every letterform at once.

  • All five texts cut from a single sheet
  • Letterforms cut clean through, so the wall color becomes part of the artwork
  • Cut edges left clean through the fine strokes of the script
  • The weight and the edge of real metal rather than a printed panel

Why the cut matters. Because the script is cut out of the sheet rather than printed onto it, the wall behind becomes part of the artwork and the piece changes with the light in the room through the day.

Hanging it

One piece, one center

With no gaps to manage, the only measurement is the center. Mark it, hang, then check the level from across the room.

  1. Mark the center, not the top

Pencil a point about 150 cm up from the floor. On a tall piece the center line matters more than the top edge.

  2. Tape the outline first

Painter's tape to the full width and height lets you judge the position from where you normally sit.

  3. Hang and level

Hook it onto its fixing, slide it until it sits straight, then step back across the room to confirm.

  • Ships ready to hang; no frame, glass or backing board to fit
  • Packed with corner protection for transit

Where it goes

The walls a square suits

Above the sofa

The wall this was designed for, spanning roughly two thirds of the seat beneath it.

Dining and console walls

A long, low piece sits naturally over a sideboard or a dining table, where a tall piece would crowd the ceiling.

Entryway and hallway

Cut work keeps a corridor from feeling closed in, because the wall reads through the letterforms.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth along the length of the script. Nothing abrasive.

No cleaners

Alcohol, glass cleaner and polish will mark a finished metal surface. A barely damp cloth, dried at once, is enough.

Away from damp

An indoor piece. Keep it off bathroom walls and away from a kitchen extractor.

Choose your size and finish

One size, and the finish is the rest of the decision. Tape the outline on the wall first — it is the only measurement that matters.
