Ayatul Kursi

One panel, cut from metal

Ayatul Kursi cut from metal as a single rectangular panel, in two sizes — 48 × 67 cm or 69 × 96 cm.

Three decisions before it ships

  1. Size

    Two sizes, 48 × 67 or 69 × 96 cm, drawn to scale against a sofa below.

  2. Finish

Seven finishes — four flat colors and three shiny.

  3. Hanging

It hangs as a single panel.

Size & scale

Judged on the wall it holds

Both sizes are about a third taller than they are wide, so they read as one block rather than a band. They are drawn below at true scale above a three-seat sofa.

Three-seat sofa · 200 cm (79 in) wide, 82 cm (32 in) high XL · 69 × 96 cm 27.2 × 37.8 in L · 48 × 67 cm 18.9 × 26.4 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
L18.9 × 26.4″48 × 67 cmA prayer corner, a study, or above a console
XL27.2 × 37.8″69 × 96 cmA main living-room or entry wall, read from across the room

Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

Materials

What it is made of

Finishing
Cut metalFinished in the tone shown

Craft

The depth is structural, not printed

The letterforms are cut clean through the metal, so the wall color shows between them and becomes part of the artwork rather than a background to it.

  • Letterforms cut clean through, so the wall color becomes part of the artwork
  • Cut edges left clean through the fine strokes of the script
  • The weight and the edge of real metal rather than a printed panel

Why the cut matters. Because the script is cut out of the sheet rather than printed onto it, the wall behind becomes part of the artwork and the piece changes with the light in the room through the day.

Finishes

The finishes

Seven finishes on the same cut panel. Three are shiny and carry a reflection with depth; the other four stay flat and graphic.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in shiny gold

Shiny Gold

The most reflective of the set and the one most often chosen for a main living-room wall.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in shiny silver

Shiny Silver

Throws light back into the room, so it lifts a wall that sits away from a window.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in shiny copper

Shiny Copper

Warmer than the gold and less common, and worth it if the room already has brass or wood tones.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in gold

Gold

Warm and bright, and the one that reads best against off-white and cream walls.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in black

Black

The sharpest contrast of the set against a pale wall, and the one that reads most clearly from across a room.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in silver

Silver

Cool and quiet, and the easiest to place in a room that already has chrome or glass in it.

Ayatul Kursi metal wall art in copper

Copper

The warmest of the set, and the one that reads best against green, clay or deep neutral walls.

Hanging it

Mark the center, not the top

On a panel taller than it is wide, a center that sits right forgives a top edge that does not.

  1. Mark the center, not the top

Pencil a point about 150 cm up from the floor. On a tall piece the center line matters more than the top edge.

  2. Tape the outline first

Painter's tape to the full width and height lets you judge the position from where you normally sit.

  3. Hang and level

Hook it onto its fixing, slide it until it sits straight, then step back across the room to confirm.

  • Packed with corner protection for transit

Where it goes

Where it goes

The prayer corner

The wall you face when you lay out the mat, at standing eye level rather than above it.

A hallway or landing

It reads on the way past, on a wall people walk by rather than sit in front of.

Above a console

A main living-room wall, centered on the furniture beneath rather than on the wall as a whole.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth along the length of the script. Nothing abrasive.

No cleaners

Alcohol, glass cleaner and polish will mark a finished metal surface. A barely damp cloth, dried at once, is enough.

Away from damp

An indoor piece. Keep it off bathroom walls and away from a kitchen extractor.

Choose your size and finish

Two sizes, and the finish is the rest of the decision. Tape the outline on the wall first — it is the only measurement that matters.
