The First Kalima

Cut metal, in a solid wooden stand

The First Kalima, cut from metal, in a solid wooden stand. Made in one size, 39 × 12 cm.

Two decisions before it ships

  1. Size

Made in one size, 39 × 12 cm, drawn to scale against a table below.

  2. In use

It ships as two pieces. The sign slides into the groove in the stand, and that is the whole assembly.

What is written on it

What it says

The Arabic is set out below with its meaning, so the piece can be read rather than only recognized.

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ

“There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

The First Kalima

Size in the hand

Made in one size, 39 × 12 cm

One size only, 39 × 12 cm. It is drawn below at true scale against a dining table, which is the honest way to judge it.

Measure the surface, not the wall. A table piece is judged on the depth of the surface it stands on rather than the width of the room. Measure front to back, and leave enough room that it is not the first thing knocked when someone reaches past it.

Craft

Two pieces that make one object

The sign is cut from metal and the stand is solid wood with a groove down its length. The two ship separately and go together in one move, which is also how the piece packs away.

  • A cut metal sign in a solid wood stand
  • A cut metal sign, seated in a groove in a solid wooden stand
  • Solid wood rather than veneer or board, so the grain runs through it
  • It ships as two pieces and stands up in seconds, with nothing to screw

On the stand. The stand is what makes this a table piece rather than a wall one. It holds the sign upright on its own weight, so the script is read at eye level from a seat instead of looked down on.

Using it

Living with it

A table piece is set down once and left, so the two minutes spent deciding where are the whole job.

  1. Slide the sign into the stand

The groove runs the length of the stand. Lower the sign in square rather than at an angle, and it seats itself.

  2. Set it where it is read from

A table piece is read from a seat, not from above. Put it down, sit where people sit, and move it once.

  3. Back from the edge, off the traffic

A hand’s width in from the front keeps it out of the way of a reaching arm and a passing sleeve.

  • Packed for transit

Where it lives

Where it goes

A console or a sideboard

The run of furniture guests pass, where a piece this size is seen at standing height rather than looked up at.

A shelf or a bookcase ledge

It needs depth rather than width, which is what a shelf has and a wall does not.

A desk or a study table

Close enough to be read at arm’s length, which is the distance the detail is cut for.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth on both parts

The metal and the wood take the same care: dry, soft, and nothing wet.

No chemicals

Alcohol and household cleaners mark the metal and strip the finish off the wood.

Lift the sign out to dust

It slides free of the groove, which makes the stand easy to wipe and the sign easy to hold by its edges.

Frequently Asked Questions

The First Kalima is the 'Key to Jannah.' Scholars from the Islamic Bulletin note that its presence in a home creates an environment of 'Tawhid' (Oneness). It acts as a spiritual anchor, reminding the residents to align every action with the pleasure of Allah and the example of the Prophet (PBUH).

Yes, it is highly encouraged as a form of 'Dhikr' (remembrance). The key is 'Adab' (etiquette): it must be placed in a clean, elevated position, typically above eye level. It should never be placed near floors, in bathrooms, or in areas where it might be treated with disrespect.

No. Our metal pieces undergo a premium electro-coating process in Turkey. This industrial-grade finish creates a chemical bond that is rust-resistant and tarnish-proof. Whether you choose Gold, Silver, or Black, the finish is designed to maintain its brilliant, mirror-like luster for decades.

The most traditional and respectful locations are the living room foyer or a dedicated prayer space (Musallah). Hanging it near the entrance of the home is a powerful way to set the spiritual tone for everyone who enters, reminding them of the foundation of their faith.

Accuracy is treated as a sacred 'Amanah' (trust). Every piece is designed in Turkey and cross-referenced with the Uthmani. Master calligraphers meticulously verify every 'Nuqta' (dot) and 'Haraka' (vowel mark) to ensure the divine words are perfectly preserved.

Our wood art offers a warm, 3D organic feel that brings a traditional aesthetic. Our metal art features a sleek, high-end finish with industrial durability. Both materials are handcrafted in our Turkish workshop to ensure museum-quality standards.

Yes, it is common to hang it in a bedroom as a source of peace and a reminder to make the Kalima one's final thought before sleep. Ensure it is mounted securely and high on the wall to maintain the respect due to the declaration of faith.

Treat the art with the same respect as a Mushaf. We recommend using a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently remove dust. Avoid water or chemical cleaners, as they are unnecessary for our premium finishes and could potentially dull the luster over time.

Our metal art is engineered to be sturdy yet lightweight. Most pieces are designed to be hung with a single nail. They often feature built-in spacers that allow the art to sit 1.5 cm away from the wall, creating a beautiful 3D shadow effect that adds depth to the script.

Turkey is the historical heart of Islamic calligraphy. By manufacturing in our Turkish workshop, we employ craftsmen who have inherited centuries of artistic tradition. This ensures that the proportions of every letter are aesthetically and scripturally perfect, a quality mass-produced items cannot match.

To maintain its quality, clean the surface with a dry cloth; avoid using water, alcohol, or chemicals. The glossy surface may attract fingerprints, so handle with care.

During the ordering process, you'll have the option to provide your family's name in the order notes. Our team will then personalize the calendar accordingly. Please ensure the name is spelled correctly to avoid any errors.

The Islamic Wall Art Store offers a 30-day return policy. If you're not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the item in its original condition and packaging within 30 days of receipt. Please note that custom or personalized items may not be eligible for return. For more details, Returns & Refunds.

We do not recommend any chemical products. You can remove dust with a slightly damp cloth.
