Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

Printed, because the detail demands it

This one is a print rather than a cut piece, and deliberately so — the gate is embroidered cloth, and the detail of that embroidery is the subject. On 10 mm MDF the panel stays flat and the print stays sharp.

Why a print, and not a cut. The Kiswa is embroidery: thousands of gold threads on black cloth. Cutting it would lose the thing that makes it worth looking at, so it is printed at full detail onto a panel thick enough not to bow.

A straight-edged panel shows a tilt that a cut silhouette hides, so this one is worth a level rather than an eye.

    Mark the center point rather than measuring in from a corner — a layered panel wants to sit centered on the wall it occupies.

  2. Tape the outline first

    Painter's tape to the full outline lets you judge the proportion from where you normally sit, before any fixing goes in.

  3. Hang and check the level

    Hang it, then step back across the room. A panel with a straight top edge shows a tilt more readily than a cut silhouette does.

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth. A painted board marks with abrasives, so nothing scouring.

No solvents

Alcohol and glass cleaner will lift paint. If a mark will not come off dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.
