Measure the wall, not the sofa. A horizontal set wants clear wall either side of it — aim for the piece to span roughly two thirds of the furniture below. Run painter's tape to the full width first and look at it from where you normally sit. The XL at 140 cm needs a genuinely open wall; on anything under about 180 cm of clear space, take the L.

Every letterform is cut clean through the metal, so the wall colour becomes part of the artwork rather than a background behind it. Each of the four pieces then mounts 1.5 cm proud of the wall, and the shadow that gap throws moves through the day.

Which process to pick. The shiny finishes are polished on real metal, so the reflection has depth that a coating cannot imitate — but a hand-run polish is not flawless, and up close you may find faint variation in the surface. It does not read at viewing distance. If you want the most uniform surface, or a piece that disappears into a dark wall, choose one of the matte finishes.

Matte. Cool and quiet — the easiest to place in a room that already has chrome or glass in it.
Matte Gold
Matte. Warmth without shine, which suits a room lit mostly by lamps rather than daylight.
Matte Copper
Matte. The warmest of the four, and the one that reads best against green, clay or deep neutral walls.
Shiny Silver
Brushed and electropolished. Throws light back into the room, so it lifts a wall that sits away from a window.
Shiny Gold
Brushed and electropolished. The most reflective of the seven and the one most often chosen for a main living-room wall.
Shiny Copper
Brushed and electropolished. Warmer than the gold and less common — worth it if the room already has brass or wood tones.
Hanging four pieces
Line them up in one measurement, not four
This is the step that decides whether the set looks right, and it is worth ten minutes. Each piece hangs from a single bracket on its back, so the whole job is getting four nails onto one shared horizontal line at the correct spacing.
Lay all four on the floor first
Arrange them exactly as they should read on the wall, with even gaps. Measure the total width, then measure from the left edge of the set to each bracket and write the four numbers down.
Mark one horizontal line
Pencil a light level line on the wall at bracket height, centred on the wall rather than on the furniture. All four nails sit on that single line, at the four distances you just measured.
Tape the outline, then hang left to right
Painter's tape to the full width lets you check the position from across the room without making a hole. Then hang from one end and work across, checking each piece against the line as you go.

Two finishes, two habits
Shiny: along the grain
A soft, dry microfibre cloth moving in the direction of the brushing. Lift the pieces by their edges — a polished surface shows fingerprints far more readily than a matte one.
Matte: dry cloth only
Dust dry and nothing more. Alcohol, glass cleaner and polish will cut into a painted surface, so if a mark will not lift dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.
Both: away from damp
Not for a bathroom wall or directly above a kitchen extractor. Steady humidity is what dulls both a polished and a painted metal finish.
