Bismillah with Ayat al-Kursi

A long line above a circle

Bismillah in Thuluth paired with a circular Ayat al-Kursi, both in matte metal with an electrostatic powder paint finish. Three set sizes, up to 179 cm across the Bismillah.

    Three set sizes. The Bismillah runs 69, 130 or 179 cm across, and the Kursi circle scales with it from 49 to 90 cm.

Craft

The depth is structural, not printed

The Bismillah is cut as one long line and the Kursi as a closed circle, so the two carry different weight on the wall: the line leads the eye across, the circle holds it.

  • One long line and one closed circle, cut to scale with each other
  • Letterforms cut clean through, so the wall color becomes part of the artwork
  • Electrostatic powder coating, baked on for a hard, even surface
  • Cut edges left clean through the fine strokes of the script

A coating that is baked, not sprayed. Powder is applied electrostatically and then cured, which gives a harder and more even surface than a sprayed paint.

Hanging it

The circle sets the center; the line sits above it

Lay both pieces on the floor first and settle the gap between them there. On the wall, center the circle and let the Bismillah run above it on one level line.

  1. Lay the set out on the floor

    Arrange every piece exactly as it should read on the wall, with even gaps, then measure the total width and the distance to each fixing.

  2. Mark one shared line

    Pencil a single level line on the wall and put every fixing on it. That is what keeps the pieces reading as one composition.

  3. Tape the outline, then work across

    Painter's tape to the full outline lets you check the whole arrangement before drilling. Hang from one end and work across, checking each piece against the line.

Keeping it as it arrived

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth along the length of the script. A baked powder coat is harder than sprayed paint and takes dusting well.

No solvents

Alcohol, glass cleaner and polish will dull a powder-painted surface. If a mark will not lift dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.

Away from damp

An indoor piece. Keep it off bathroom walls and away from a kitchen extractor.

Choose your size and finish

Three set sizes, and the layout is the rest of the decision. Tape both outlines on the wall before you mark anything.
