The body is cast from white stone dust in one piece and the relief is cast in with it. A metal cup sits inside, which is what takes the heat rather than the stone.

On cast stone. White stone dust cast solid gives a piece real weight and a matte, slightly open surface — it takes the light the way a wall of a building does rather than the way a coated panel does.

Using it

Burning bakhoor in it

A piece this heavy is set down once and left, so the two minutes spent deciding where are the whole job.

  1. The charcoal goes in the metal cup

    The cup lifts out. The stone never touches the charcoal, which is what keeps the body from staining and cracking.

  2. Set it on something heatproof

    A tile, a coaster or a stone surface. The body warms through in use, so a bare wooden table is not the place for it.

  3. Empty it cold

    Let the cup go cold before you lift it out, then tip the ash and wipe the cup dry.
