Black and turquoise florals

Traditional florals in black and turquoise

Traditional florals in black and turquoise, on 122 × 68 cm of soft acrylic fabric. One size, one weight — the pattern is the whole choice.

Three decisions before it ships

  1. Which pattern

Traditional florals in black and turquoise. Every mat in this range is the same cloth at the same size, so the pattern is the choice.

  2. Size

Made in one size, 122 × 68 cm — drawn to scale against an adult below.

  3. Laying it down

The patterned end is the head of the mat. Set it down that way once and the direction stops being a decision.

Size on the floor

Does a grown adult fit on it?

One size, 122 × 68 cm. It is drawn below beside a 170 cm adult, because the only question a mat’s size really answers is whether a grown adult fits on it.

Adult · 45 cm (18 in) wide, 170 cm (67 in) high One size · 122 × 68 cm 48 × 26.8 in
SizeWidth × height (in)Width × height (cm)Best for
One size48 × 26.8″122 × 68 cmEvery posture, for an adult — there is one size and this is it

On the length. 122 cm is the long side, and it is the one that matters: in sujud the hands, knees and forehead all have to land on the mat at once. The 68 cm across is the shoulders.

Craft

The cloth itself

Soft acrylic fabric, in black and turquoise.

  • Black and turquoise florals, the pattern this one carries
  • Soft acrylic fabric — the surface is the point, and it is what carries a long prayer comfortably
  • One piece of cloth: the same mat sits behind every pattern in this range
  • Made in a single size, so the design is what you are choosing

What changes from one to the next. Every mat in this range is the same soft acrylic fabric at the same size. What differs between them is the pattern — so the choice is about the room it goes in, rather than about how it feels to pray on.

Using it

Laying it down

A mat spends most of its life folded. These three habits are what keep the fold from becoming a crease.

  1. Unfold it and let it sit

Straight out of the packet it carries the folds it travelled in. Laid flat for a day they drop out on their own; pressing them is what sets a shine into the pile.

  2. Lay it with the top edge to the qibla

The patterned end is the head of the mat. Setting it down the same way each time is what makes the direction automatic rather than a decision.

  3. Fold it along the same line each time

One fold, the same way, rather than a new one every day. A single remembered crease disappears when the mat is laid out; a dozen random ones do not.

  • Packed for transit

Where it lives

Where it ends up

A prayer corner that stays set up

Laid out and left, so there is nothing to fetch. This is the whole argument for owning more than one.

Folded on a shelf or in a drawer

At 122 cm it folds down to about the size of a hand towel, which is why it lives in a cupboard rather than on the floor between prayers.

Packed for travel or the mosque

A mat you already know beats whatever is on the floor when you arrive — in a case, a car, or a bag for Jumu’ah.

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Shake it out, don’t beat it

A firm shake outdoors lifts the dust out of the weave. That is the whole weekly routine.

Spot clean, cold

A cloth, cold water and a little mild soap on the mark itself. Work from the outside of the spot inwards so it does not spread.

Dry flat, out of the sun

Lay it flat to dry rather than hanging it over a line, which pulls one edge long. Weeks of direct sun take the color down.
