Al-Fatiha with the First Kalima

Raised stone on a matte board

Al-Fatiha with the First Kalima, cast in stone, raised on a matte board. Two pieces, 30 × 30 cm each.

Three decisions before it ships

  1. Size

Two pieces, 30 × 30 cm each, sold as the set or one at a time.

  2. Finish

Two finishes — gold or black.

  3. Hanging

It arrives assembled with the hanging brackets already fitted.

Size & scale

Two pieces, 30 × 30 cm each

Two pieces at 30 × 30 cm each, drawn below side by side at true scale against a three-seat sofa. The run is what has to fit on the wall. Each piece can also be bought on its own.

One size11.8 × 11.8″30 × 30 cmBoth together on a wall of its own; one piece on its own suits a narrower wall beside a door.

Tape the whole outline first. A set needs its total footprint marked, not each piece measured — run painter's tape around the full width and height, stand back to where you normally sit, and judge it from there.

Craft

Stone raised off the board behind it

The centerpiece is cast stone, raised off a matte board so the light crosses it. The relief throws its own shadow, which is the whole reason for stone rather than a print.

  • A cast stone centerpiece, raised so the light crosses it
  • Mounted on a matte MDF base inside a slim gold-toned frame

On the raised relief. The calligraphy stands off the base rather than sitting flush with it, so the piece throws its own shadow and changes through the day — which is the reason to choose cast stone over a print.

Finishes

The finishes

The casting is the same in every one; what changes is whether the relief is left as bare stone or gilded. Bare stone reads as the material, the gilding picks up the light.

Al-Fatiha with the First Kalima in cast stone in gold

Gold

Warm and bright, and the one that reads best against off-white and cream walls.

Al-Fatiha with the First Kalima in cast stone in black

Black

The sharpest contrast of the set against a pale wall, and the one that reads most clearly from across a room.

Hanging it

Hanging it

A piece this heavy is set down once and left, so the two minutes spent deciding where are the whole job.

  1. Pick the surface before the spot

Cast stone is heavy for its size, so it wants a surface that will not flex — a shelf fixed to the wall, a console, a mantel.

  2. Set it back from the edge

A hand’s width in from the front is the difference between a piece that survives a busy hallway and one that does not.

  3. Lift with two hands

Put it down rather than sliding it: dragged across wood, the base leaves a mark.

  • Ships ready to hang; no frame, glass or backing board to fit
  • Packed with corner protection for transit

Where it goes

Where it goes

The prayer corner

The wall you face when you lay out the mat, where a single piece is read rather than looked at.

Above a console or a sideboard

It sits over a run of furniture as one object, without needing a second piece to balance it.

A hallway or a study wall

One piece suits the wall you pass or sit facing, where a set would be too much.

Against the alternatives

Care

Keeping it as it arrived

Dust it dry

A soft, dry brush over the relief and a dry cloth on the frame. Nothing wet on the stone.

Nothing acidic

Household cleaners etch cast stone. Keep them off the centerpiece entirely.

Lift it by the frame

The frame carries the weight; the stone does not want a thumb on it.

Choose your size and finish

Two pieces, one size, one construction. Measure for the whole run before you decide — bought singly each needs far less room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kufic was developed before the invention of paper, designed for carving into stone or writing on parchment with thick reeds. Its angularity made it easier to engrave on mosques and monuments. Today, this 'stone-cut' heritage is what gives it such a bold, authoritative presence compared to more cursive styles.

Square Kufic is as much a mathematical puzzle as it is a script. It follows a strict grid where the 'black' (letters) and 'white' (negative space) are perfectly balanced. While it requires a trained eye to read quickly, its primary purpose is 'Dhikr' (remembrance)—the form itself invites the viewer to slow down and contemplate the word.

Because Kufic relies on sharp right angles and straight lines, 3D versions cast very distinct, crisp shadows. In a well-lit room, these shadows act as a second, 'echo' layer of the calligraphy on your wall, shifting throughout the day as the sun moves, which emphasizes the geometric precision of the piece.

Minimalism is about 'less but better.' Kufic strips away the flourishes of cursive script to reveal the core structure of the Arabic letters. This 'architectural' look complements clean lines, neutral color palettes, and the premium materials (like laser-cut steel or mirrored acrylic) used in modern artisan decor.

Verses that emphasize the majesty and oneness of Allah, such as the 'Shahada' (Declaration of Faith), 'Surah Al-Ikhlas', and 'Alhamdulillah', are favorites. The symmetry of these phrases lends itself beautifully to the geometric requirements of Kufic grids.

Because Kufic has many small, sharp corners, dust can settle in the joints. The best maintenance is a quick pass with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a compressed air duster once a month. Avoid wet wipes, which can leave streaks on the high-gloss or metallic finishes that Kufic art is known for.

It is both. It is the most traditional script in terms of age, but its aesthetic is the most modern in terms of style. This 'timeless' quality makes it a versatile investment—it respects the deep history of Islam while looking perfectly at home in a 21st-century skyscraper.

Kufic thrives on alignment. When hanging a set (like the 'SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar' trio), use a spirit level to ensure they are perfectly horizontal. The geometric nature of the script makes even a slight tilt very noticeable to the eye.

Mirrored finishes (gold or silver) reflect the surrounding room back to the viewer. When applied to the structured lines of Kufic, it creates a 'jewel-like' effect that elevates the wall art from a simple sign into a high-end luxury statement.

Master calligraphers first draft the design on a precise grid to ensure that the proportions of the 'Alif' and the 'Lam' are mathematically consistent. Once the grid is perfect, it is converted into a vector for laser cutting, ensuring that the final 3D piece is a 100% accurate physical manifestation of the digital masterwork.
