Prayer room ideas: how to set up a namaz corner at home

A prayer corner does not need a whole room. It needs a clean spot that faces the qibla, a prayer rug and something on the wall that marks the direction of prayer. Everything else, from a tasbih to a Quran stand, is there to make the space easier to use every day.

Start with the qibla

Find the qibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah, before you choose anything else. A qibla compass or a qibla app on your phone gives the direction in seconds. The wall you face when you pray is where a mihrab or a verse belongs, so the corner looks right and the direction is clear to anyone who prays there.

Choosing a mihrab

A mihrab is the arch shape that shows the direction of prayer in a mosque. At home it turns an ordinary wall into a prayer corner. Our mihrabs come in four kinds.

Type Sizes Colors Good for
Wooden mihrab on the wall About 50 to 180 cm tall Shiny gold, shiny silver, black Marking a full corner, from a small niche to a full-height arch
Metal mihrab with a verse About 67 to 100 cm tall Gold or silver inside, black or metal outside A smaller wall, with Ayatul Kursi, the Kalima or another verse
Glass verse panel 90 x 33 cm Gold or silver on black glass Above the rug, with Surah Al-Baqarah 2:144 about the qibla
Foldable wooden mihrab 110 x 80 cm or 150 x 110 cm Black or white A three-panel mihrab with Bismillah calligraphy that folds when not in use

Ideas for a small space

A corner of the bedroom, the end of a hallway or a quiet part of the living room is enough. A mihrab on the wall takes no floor space, and the prayer rug can be folded and stored after each prayer. Keep the corner simple, with a few pieces that mean something to you, so it stays calm and easy to keep clean.

For more pieces that fit the corner, see our dhikr wall art with SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar.
