Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

The metal is cut to the outline of the country and the artwork is UV printed onto it, so the color is cured into the surface rather than sprayed over it.

On the tape. Double-sided tape carries a cut panel of this weight without a nail, and comes off the wall with a hairdryer rather than a filler and a brush — which is what makes it the right fixing for a rented wall.

Hanging it

Tape, not a nail

A map goes up by its outline rather than a center line, which is a different job from hanging a rectangle. Three steps.

  1. Tape the outline on the wall first

    A country is a shape, not a rectangle, so run painter's tape around its extremes and live with it for a day. It is the only way to see whether the wall takes it.

  2. Clean the wall where the tape goes

    Double-sided tape holds on a dry, dust-free surface and lets go on a dusty one. Wipe the spots, let them dry, then press.

  3. Press from the middle outward

    Put the tapes on vertically for a stronger hold, line the piece up, then press from the center out so no corner is left holding the whole weight.
