Ayatul Kursi (آية الكرسي) en arabe :

Traduction de Ayatul Kursi :

Allah ! Point de divinité à part Lui, l'Éternel, le Garant de toute existence. Ni la somnolence ni le sommeil ne Le saisissent. À Lui appartient tout ce qui est dans les cieux et sur la terre. Qui peut intercéder auprès de Lui, si ce n'est par Sa permission ? Il sait ce qui les précède et ce qui les suivra, et ils ne comprennent rien de Son savoir, sauf ce qu'Il veut. Son Kursi s'étend sur les cieux et la terre, et leur préservation ne Le fatigue pas. Et Il est le Très-Haut, le Très-Grand.

Ayat al-Kursi paired with Allahumma Salli and Barik in matte metal, both as two-part rounds. Three set sizes, from 49 up to 90 cm wide per piece.

The Throne Verse, and the salawat

The verse recited for protection beside the blessing said on the Prophet — the two texts most often read together, which is why they are cut as a set.

“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

Two parts to each piece

Each round is cut as an inner and an outer part and assembled on the wall, which is what lets the two carry different tones and gives the piece its depth.

  • An inner and an outer part to each of the two pieces
  • Letterforms cut clean through, so the wall color becomes part of the artwork
  • Cut edges left clean through the fine strokes of the script
  • The weight and the edge of real metal rather than a printed panel

Why the cut matters. Because the script is cut out of the sheet rather than printed onto it, the wall behind becomes part of the artwork and the piece changes with the light in the room through the day.

Two centers, one line

Neither piece has a top edge to level against, so mark a center for each and keep both centers on the same line. Set the gap on the floor first.

  1. Lay the set out on the floor

    Arrange every piece exactly as it should read on the wall, with even gaps, then measure the total width and the distance to each fixing.

  2. Mark one shared line

    Pencil a single level line on the wall and put every fixing on it. That is what keeps the pieces reading as one composition.

  3. Tape the outline, then work across

    Painter's tape to the full outline lets you check the whole arrangement before drilling. Hang from one end and work across, checking each piece against the line.
