Allah ! Point de divinité à part Lui, l'Éternel, le Garant de l'existence. Ni la somnolence ni le sommeil ne Le saisissent. À Lui appartient tout ce qui est dans les cieux et la terre. The Throne Verse, recited for protection and often the first verse learned by heart. Kufic is the squared, architectural hand — which is what lets the whole verse resolve into a square.

“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

On tempered glass. Tempered glass is heat-treated after cutting, which is what lets a single 8 mm sheet hang from one nail without a frame around it. The color is painted behind the surface you touch, so what you clean is glass.

One nail, and one level line

Glass wants the hanger measured rather than guessed, and it wants carrying by the edges. Both take a minute.

  1. Lay it face down and find the hanger

    Set it on a towel, face down, and measure from the top edge to the metal hanging part. That one number is the whole job.

  2. Pencil one level line

    Mark a light horizontal line at hanger height, centered on the furniture below rather than on the wall as a whole.

  3. One nail, then lift by the edges

    Set a single nail on the line. Carry the panel by its edges — never by the calligraphy — and hook it on.
