A round piece reads smaller on a wall than a square of the same width, because it has no corners to fill. All four are drawn below at true scale above a three-seat sofa.

Mark it before you choose. Run painter's tape on the wall to the outer width and height, then stand back to where you normally sit and look at it from there. On a tall piece, hang it with its middle around 150 cm from the floor and the drop does the rest.

This one comes down and goes back up, so it is worth pencilling the mark faintly and leaving it there for next year.

Find the center of the wall

Mark the center point rather than measuring in from a corner — a layered panel wants to sit centered on the wall it occupies.
Tape the outline first

Painter's tape to the full outline lets you judge the proportion from where you normally sit, before any fixing goes in.
Hang and check the level

Hang it, then step back across the room. A panel with a straight top edge shows a tilt more readily than a cut silhouette does.

Dry cloth only

A soft, dry cloth. Wood and acrylic both mark with abrasives, so nothing scouring.

No solvents

Alcohol and glass cleaner will haze acrylic. If a mark will not lift dry, use a barely damp cloth and dry it at once.

Away from damp and direct sun

Wood moves with humidity and acrylic can warm in direct sunlight, so give it an interior wall out of the midday light.
